Lyric writing differs from poetry, in the sense that while rhythm is a factor in both, however with respect to music, the beats are ever changing in relation to tempo and time signature, but each artform offers the ability to tell a story.
Writing
Lyric writing like poetry, involves word rhymes, either through song lines, or else via inflection points whereby phrases can be written, albeit with a rhyme word occurring part way through an initial phrase, so a later phrase can be sung.
Composition
The composition of a lyric is determined via accompaniment, such as piano or a piano sound serving as both a percussive and melodic instrument. Arpeggios are used whereby a lyric may be sung as a series of syllables, whilst intervals are used to determine melody.
Synopsis
While a story may be told through song lyrics, a background may need to be established so an understanding can be gathered in relation to a particular concept, which is to state an idea or describe a work, through a written brief or synopsis.
Summary
A summary may be offered in relation to a synopsis, that potentially gives an insight into an idea, as expressed through a song lyric or words so a point of view can be ascertained regarding particular subjects or topics.
