Broadcast media has been a staple of modern communication and messaging, since from early last century, including radio and television; and has allowed dissemination of information and media, to disparate audiences the world over.
Intrinsic to broadcasting is the passive nature of information emanating from a central source; in stark contrast to the active nature of the internet, which allows relay and communication of ideas to one or more persons in a wholly distributed manner, using various devices and media.
The internet is arguably in its' relative infancy, with new networks being built as demand for data increases but just as important; new standards are being developed for the presentation of media, as well as security and enhancements to the basic functionality of the web.
